Dear Jahangir et al.

Thank you very much for raising this issue.
There are no excuses.

In my view, we (altogether) have made impressive progresses on the reaction between ISOC Chapters and ISOC staff. But there are always opportunities to continue improving.
Your email takes us out from our comfort zone.

Be sure that we are committed to continue working for avoiding this kind of situation. In fact your email and the thread originated with it, has already launched several internal conversations.

And better late than never, let’s work with you and the Bangladesh Chapter specifically on the ION meeting.

Best Regards,

Raúl

Dear Delegates,

Internet Society Bangladesh Dhaka Chapter (http://www.isoc.org.bd/dhaka/) is delighted to know that ISOC (global) is organizing an ION event in Dhaka, Bangladesh in collaboration with BdNOG. This is indeed a great initiative in raising awareness, capacity building and, overall, carrying forward ISOC's mission in Bangladesh.

We only learnt about this event from ISOC360 website when one of our members visited http://www.internetsociety.org/deploy360/ion/bangladesh2016/. However, since there have been no prior communication from ISOC (global) with the chapter about this event we could not respond to our members query about the chapter's role in this event. As such, we felt bit uncomfortable. Our chapter is fairly new (since 2011) and we are yet to learn how ISOC (global) works with chapter in organizing local events. Is it usual that the local chapter is not informed before doing a local event with another local entity? we thought it could have been a great way to strengthen a very active chapter like ours if we were given the opportunity to work in collaboration or even mentioned!.

We are concerned thinking that a very active and highly enthusiastic local chapter has very little value/importance to ISOC (global) in advancing ISOC's mission in Bangladesh. Our members are also beginning to wonder how well the local chapter is connected with ISOC (global).

We would like to hear about other chapter's opinion about this.

Regards /
