@All (+ Olga):
ISOC Puerto Rico submitted a project in 2005 under the previous grant
program. The project was named: Internet Clubs of Puerto Rico.
This project formed the core of our Digital Divide Initiative (2005-2008)
which helped bring together disparate groups of people in poor communities
throughout the Island to learn and take advantage of the Internet to
improve themselves, their communities, and surrounding environment.
We estimated that the aggregated value of the Internet Clubs far exceeded
the received grant, as evidenced by the number of communities and
individuals impacted by the initiative, as well by the people that helped
made it successful.
Unfortunately, as of today, all Internet Clubs of Puerto Rico and its
peripheral efforts do not exist anymore. We painfully learned that these
type of projects need *continuity and sustainability *to stay alive and
active*.* To ensure success for this type of projects you will need the
commitment of dedicated person(s) to support it continuously and the
appropriate funding, as these resources are not readily available on a
volunteer basis.
We have submitted many other projects to keep supporting digital inclusion
around Puerto Rico. These have been supported mostly by events grants and
local sponsors.
