You were not alone.  I was fortunate enough to be at the IETF meeting
and because I have a new role within ISOC chapters decided that
observing the entire Board meeting (the open parts) was good thing to do.

One of the things I did remark on is how few of the candidates for the
BoT, from either the chapters or the organizations, did remote or
in-room observation of the meeting.
