Hi Glenn,
I share your curiosity.
I've made the same observation during the two last Remote Hub of ICANN
meetings. It comes out that over 85% of applications for the ICANN Remote
Hub meetings are ISOC Chapters.
With this, I made this reflection, which may not be entirely true:
- May be the Nomcom of ICANN trusted too much ISOC Chapters.
- May be the ISOC Chapters have the best profiles that the ICANN NomCom
looks for.
- May be ICANN has more attractive activities that attract ISOC chapters.
- May be the ISOC Chapters do not always have the priority in the selection
of candidates in the ISOC programs (Community grants, IETF fellowships,
etc).
- May be ISOC poorly uses its chapters, therefore, the more dynamics run
away to be connected to the ICANN programs, which offers multiple
activities open to the general public like: Working Groups, CROPP,
Fellowships, etc.
- Ultimately maybe ISOC is working to qualify the actors of ICANN and other
Internet organizations.
- But at the end of the day, and at the End User point of view, all of this
is in favor of achieving the goal of "The Internet is for every one".
- And finally I ask myself, why not reconsider the ISOC Global INET event,
and keep it annually, for capitalizing the resources of the ISOC chapters?
Warm regards,
/Janvier Ngnoulaye
