Dear colleagues,

application for creation new, non geographic-based (Special Interest*)*
ISOC Chapter-Chapter of Food, I found very interesting.
Issues of food security, food waste management, food quality transparency,
health & food connections and food environments are and should be one of
the key issues of our existence as humans on Earth and they show our care
and good intention not just for our health, but also for health of other
beings and health of Earth itself as a Planet. By definiton of Committee on
World Food Security (three Rome-based UN Agencies: The Food and
Agricultural Organization (FAO) <http://www.fao.org/index_en.htm>, The
International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)
<http://www.ifad.org/>and The World Food Programme (WFP)):
<http://www.wfp.org/>*"Food security exists when all people, at all times,
have physical, social and economic access to sufficient safe and nutritious
food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and
healthy life". *And from the core begining of movement for free internet,
innovations and openness of internet, there are strong and bold
connection between
those two. There is also onother issue which consider healthy use of
internet in connection with sliping patterns and junk food advertisement on
internet :"Media clearly play an important role in the current epidemic of
childhood and adolescent obesity. The sheer number of advertisements that
children and adolescents see for junk food and fast food have an effect.
So, too, does the shift away from good nutritional practices that increased
media screen time seems to create. Any success in dealing with the current
epidemic will require a major change in society's recognition of media
exposure as a major risk factor for obesity and in young people's media
habits and the advertisements to which they are "TV and other media are
known to displace or disturb young people's sleep patterns. A longitudinal
study of adolescents in New York found that viewing 3 or more hours/day of
TV/Internet doubled the risk of difficulty falling asleep compared with
adolescents who watch less than 1 hour/day. There is also now evidence that
later bedtimes and less sleep may be associated with a greater risk of
obesity. The mechanism may be that sleep loss leads to increased snacking
and consumption of less healthy foods to maintain energy, that sleep
deprivation leads to fatigue and therefore greater sedentary behavior, or
that children who do not get enough sleep have metabolic changes as well"*.
In my conclusion statement, *I gave my strongly support *to establishment
of special ISOC "Chapter of Food" which can/will also deal with healthy
Internet use, healthy food advocacy and ecology/environment/sustainability
awareness advocacy issues in connection with use of internet.
About some concernings of incomplatibles of that issue and ISOC agenda I
will just quote:
"*By connecting the world, working with others, and advocating for equal
access to the Internet, the Internet Society strives to make the world a
better place. At the foundation of our work are a vision and a mission.
Vision :The Internet is for everyone. Mission :To promote the open
development, evolution, and use of the Internet for the benefit of all
people throughout the world"*.

Best regards,

Saso
