Am I alone in finding the new ISOC "Connected discussion" is limiting
use to broadcast announcements? I find them unsuited for discussions
precisely because the context and position of any message within a
thread is lost.

Top posting is fine for me provided it quotes sufficiently to give
context. It's the best way to provide a link or pointer or general
observation. Joly's top posts pointing to resources are well judged I find.

But for more detailed point by point discussions I prefer to go inline.
Too many new email clients or "web" orientated comms tools are
preventing inline discussions and force top posting. Wrong headed
assumptions of device UI restraints is leading a number of IOS and
Android developers to loose utility of their apps for more informative
discussion purposes.
