Thank you, Cintra, and all, for bringing this issue to my attention.
I am conferring with colleagues on the history and status of our efforts in this area. I, too, believe this is an important undertaking. We are, apparently, on "pause". I agree with Glenn, however, that we might use this "pause" to look at ways to strengthen the program. In the spirit of the meeting we had last night, I welcome your thoughts.
Please allow me to assess our status for this year and I will be back to you with a proposed way forward.
Kathy

Hi Cintra
Thanks for thinking of the heart and soul of ISOC
My comments reflects my experience working with ICANN to promote fellowship beyond the Least Developed Nation category to be inclusive to the First Nations in North America and Australia. ISOC needs to acknowledge that First Nations have incomes as low or lower than many 'emerging' nations which were recipients of the program. ICANN's approach to our ideas was the creation of a mentorship program which included a North American, a South African and a Australian. These individuals were assigned to mentors in the ecosystem and they were active in various working groups beyond just attending meetings and being a passive observer.
If the program is being reinstated perhaps this is an opportunity to revamp it's core function, deliverables and metrics
Thanks
Glenn

Dear Chapter Delegates,
Like many of you I am a graduate of the ISOC Next Generation Leaders (NGL) Programme and alumni of the ISOC Ambassador Programme, these programmes really enhanced and strengthened our Chapter and its leaders.
Indeed, not only have these Programmes done alot to support ISOC Chapter Leaders in capacity building and networking into the IGF world; but they have been very supportive of non-english speaking chapters in particular by encouraging participation to countries such as Venezuela and supporting French and Spanish language learning.
In fact, ICANN has similar programs called the ICANN Fellowships and ICANN Academy programs, both have which been recognised for their success in bringing new contributors to ICANN and rewarded with increased budgets.
Unfortunately, ISOC appears to be doing the opposite. At the ISOC meeting held at ICANN London today, I asked about the reallocation of funds effectively terminating the ISOC NGL and Ambassador's Program. It is quite strange that there had been no previous consultation or correspondence to the Chapters from staff regarding this change (whether temporary or permanent).
Toral Cowieson (Senior Director ISOC Leadership) answered the question. She stressed the value of the programs to ISOC and many hands were raised in the room as beneficiaries of these programs. Apparently the ISOC Ambassadors program will return in 2015 in a different format.
This email has been very much from my own perspective, I feel that these programs must be returned to truly build existing and new Chapters. From the Chapter Delegates I love to hear your own experiences of these programs.
Given the vagueness of the status of these key programs, I would like to know from staff what format this program would be returned to the Chapters and internet community; as well as the new focus.
Thank you for your kind attention and thoughts.
Best regards

Saludos cordiales
