Dear David, Richard et all,
Thank you very much for this very useful feedback, it is comforting us in furthering our engagement in this important area.
We are conscious that human rights will remain a central issue on next year’s agenda, whether as a cross-cutting consideration in Internet governance processes (e.g. IGF, WSIS Review) or as standalone topic (Human Rights Council with possible new Special Mandate on Privacy, RightsCon, Stockholm Internet Forum, etc).
Beyond forums, we will remain attentive to issues that emerge at the intersection of technology and human rights. In this respect, you sharing key regional issues on these lists is also very valuable to us.
My colleague Nicolas Seidler (seidler at isoc.org) is our lead on this front and will continue to engage with you next year. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to him if you have any suggestions and input.
Best regards,
Constance

I too would support ISOC's continuing engagement on this front.
The Swiss chapter has taken a strong position against data retention, see:
http://www.isoc.ch/archives/1843
The Council of Europe Human Rights Commissioner has taken a strong position
in support of freedom of speech and privacy, and against privatizing law
enforcement on the Internet.
Here is a summary:
