Constance,

Enjoyed meeting you in person on your recent visit here in NYC.

I've forwarded your request for input on human rights issues to our
members as well as a number of people in other organizations we work
closely with.

I have a few brief thoughts that may be good in developing talking
points to quickly convey basic concepts to overworked UN staffers. In
addition I'd like to suggest we put together a team of ISOC-NY
volunteers to help you do outreach at the UN here in NYC.

The most important message to convey is that privacy and freedom of
expression are essential to security and economic progress rather than
conflicting with them.

Freedom of expression is critical to technical innovation in a world
where information technology is the driver of economic progress. And
businesses need to have confidence in the privacy and authenticity of
sensitive communications.

These bread and butter concerns are the best way to advocate for a human
rights agenda to people who may not share the same cultural world view
or values.

I'm looking forward to further discussion - let me know when would be a
good time to meet again. It would also be great to have you meet our
members. I'm sure they'd love an extended conversation on these topics
which are a special concern of our Chapter.

Regards,

David
