[Chapter-delegates] Trustees! not staff! Re: Announcement about the dissolution of ISOC-KH

This is the only response I will make to this list on what has been the
first personal attack on my character and good faith in my professional
career.

For the record, Alan and I spent a good part of a day in person discussing
the ISOC Members in Guateng who were trying to put an event together and
looked to Alan for support. For whatever reason that support never
materialized according to these members and they expressed their desire to
form their own chapter. Before I would encourage them I spoke to Alan and
asked him directly if he would support a separate chapter since the
nurturing and training of the Gauteng members was, in his words, too much
work to train and supervise them" for him or presumably the ZA chapter.
Alan assured me he was fine with that so long as ISOC ZA maintained
leadership within South Africa. I agreed and only then did I give the
go-ahead for the application process for a Gauteng Chapter. The next time
I communicated this to Alan he told me I was out of my mind, that he never
said such a thing and that I was out to subvert the ZA chapter. I was
astonished and offered twice to connect directly by voice to overcome this
communication breakdown. He refused and went silent to me.

With respect to observing the netiquette, I admit to mistakes within my
department and others, which I have now corrected internally, including
having established rules of email protocol for our lists and for our
membership communications. I thanked Alan for this and for guiding me.

Regarding Alan's second point, the project he sent me to in Johannesburg,
I was highly thankful and encouraged by what I saw and again thanked him.
I'm unclear how my 'dishonesty' manifested in this case.

People of good faith and interest can often have differing views,
miscommunications and a falling out. It is how they react afterward that
is the measure of character and leadership.

To Alan, I reiterate my prior offers to speak directly in order to 1) try
to resolve our miscommunication and 2)find a way to assist ISOC ZA in a
fashion consistent with your independence and needs. I do not wage war on
chapters. I am a voice and manager within ISOC for the greater support of
Chapters.

Lastly, personal attacks on this list are inconsistent with the spirit and
purpose of the Chapter Delegates list, and with the very netiquette I'm
accused of ignoring. Regardless whether it is staff or a chapter member,
this list is meant for civil, professional discourse. Everyone will
benefit from this.

With special regards,

Ted
