 Dear Colleagues,

The following application for a Chapter in Zimbabwe has been received. It is being sent to this list for peer comment and review.
Please note that the Chapter is not yet formed and has not officially been recognised by the Internet Society.
If there are people on this list that know the individuals proposing to establish the Chapter, feedback is especially welcome.
The period allowed for comments is two weeks and the deadline is 1 August 2013.

Chapter Application

A.    Proposed name of the Chapter
 
The Internet Society Zimbabwe Chapter
 
 B. Community of Interest the Chapter will serve
Zimbabwe (Rural and Urban)
 
C. Purpose and scope of Chapter
1) To sensitize Zimbabweans on the use of the Internet and advocate for a conducive policy environment so that Zimbabweans can use the internet to actively and positively participate in national development processes.
2) To create a platform for dialogue and debate on Internet development related issues amongst various stakeholders.
3) To facilitates open development of standards, protocols, administration, and the technical infrastructure of the Internet.
4) To support internet usage for educational purposes in Zimbabwe, primarily in remote areas and smaller towns.
5) To promote professional development and build communities to foster participation and leadership in areas which are significant to the evolution on the Internet.
6) To provide reliable information about the Internet.
7 ) To provide a platform for discussion of issues that affect Internet evolution, development and usage in technical, commercial, societal, disciplines and other contexts.
8) Provide forums for professional networking and knowledge sharing
9) To share information and advice from the international ISOC communities with the Zimbabwean public and the Government to improve the development of telecommunications infrastructure in the country, as well as in developing the necessary policies to assure that the use of the Internet will be fair and that the right conditions for its development are set.
10) To be the link with the Internet Society International office as well as other Internet Society chapters in other countries to foster sharing of ideas and opportunities.
11) Any other similar objectives that further the development of the Internet and Internet related issues.

3) General workshop (To educate local communities about effective internet usage)

F. List of supporters and partner organizations
1) The Government of Zimbabwe through the Ministry of ICT is providing policy direction and moral support to the Chapter. A senior official from the Ministry has been mandated to supported chapter activities including attending all meetings (Mr Mujeye)
2) Ambrose Consulting - support with hosting services and domain registration, 
3) Development Reality Institute - Office space, address and meeting facilities, video conference facilities
4) CABS - negotiations ongoing to have CABS as official  bank for the Chapter 
5) Deloitte & Touche - negotiations underway to become Auditors
