Dear Members,

This is to give you an update on recent developments on Internet
Governance as well as information on ISOC's future activities in this
field. We would also like to invite you to join an Internet Governance
Webinar on 21 February (14:00 UTC) to further the discussion within our
community (Webex details will be sent ahead of the meeting).

Below is a non-exhaustive list of activities and conferences that may be
of interest to you and that ISOC is taking part in 2013 to advocate for
an Open and Global Internet.

Our online discussion will also be useful to put these events and
different conference cycles in perspective and specifically with regards
to the upcoming Review of the World Summit on the Information Society
(WSIS) that will take place in the next two years and contribute to
shaping the Internet Governance landscape beyond 2015.

- ITU World Conference on International Telecommunications (3-14
December 2012, Dubai)
------------------------------------------------------------------
A specific post-mortem WCIT Webinar will be organized on 31 January 2013
to further analyze the political and technical impact of the conference
and discuss lessons learned:

- UN Commission on Science and Technology Development (CSTD)
inter-sessional meeting (7-9 Jan. Lima, Peru)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Although informational, the meeting covered critical issues such as the
WSIS Review as well as the composition of a new Working Group on
Enhanced Cooperation to be created in the coming weeks. The Internet
Society participated to the discussions, inviting member states to
preserve the multi-stakeholder principle in all stances:

- WSIS+10 Review (25-27 Feb., Paris)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
In cooperation with ITU, UNDP and UNCTAD, UNESCO is hosting the first
formal Review of the WSIS+10. Note that a second Review will be
organized by the ITU in 2014. This multi-stakeholder and high-level
event will bring governments, civil society, the private sector and
international organizations together on key knowledge societies topics.
The community will review WSIS developments, discuss current and future
knowledge society trends and formulate post-2015 recommendations

At this stage: UNESCO is inviting for comments on preliminary
recommendations that could be adopted during the event in February:

- ITU World Telecommunications Policy Forum (WTPF; 14-16 May, Geneva)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The next preparatory meeting of the Informal Experts Group (IEG) will
take place from 11 to 13 Feb., in Geneva. We encourage all interested
individuals to apply if they wish to join the IEG.
Also, the 4th version of the Secretary General's Report is available for
comments until 30 January. Please do not hesitate to share your thoughts
on this list: http://www.itu.int/en/wtpf-13/Pages/default.aspx

Note: the 2013 WSIS Forum (13-17 May) as well as the IGF Open
Consultations and MAG meetings (21-23 May) will be held back-to-back, in
Geneva.

Looking ahead
--------------------
There are other critical Internet Governance debates the Internet
Society will be participating to and for which we will be engaging with
our you as we get closer to the events:

Geneva)
- UN General Assembly (Oct., New York)
- 8th edition of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF; 21-25 Oct., Bali)
