I. Additional information
a) There is already an existing ZA Chapter of the Internet Society that is established, which is based in Western Cape province of South Africa and with regard to geographical reason, it cannot be able to reach to every part of the Country and be able to achieve its objectives. With the proposed request to establish the Gauteng Chapter the aim to be able to work with the current ZA Chapter in achieving the mission and vision of having an all inclusive digital Community.
b) The Gauteng chapter objectives is to mainly engage and educate mostly the youth on issues that are related to the internet and the opportunities that brought forth by having access to the internet and engaging the stakeholders in striving to reduce the cost of broadband.
c) The proposed Chapter believes that ICT is integral to development. It is a catalyst for poverty reduction and economic growth, a pillar of public health and community building. Beyond its social and economic utility, ICT betters people’s lives by increasing their scope for individual choice and helping to fulfill human potential.
e) The Gauteng Chapter will be active in the advocacy role on internet related issues in even through the media, private sector, academia and government.
f) Therefore will engage and collaborate with the ZA Chapter of the internet society, in striving to achieve ISOC mission and vision.
g) South Africa is a country that is divided into nine provinces: Limpopo, North West, Gauteng, Mpumalanga, KwaZuluNatal, Free State, Northern Cape, Western Cape and Eastern Cape.
h) Gauteng Province is home to 12.2 million people , almost 25% of the total South African population. Gauteng Province is also the fastest growing province, experiencing a population growth of over 33% between the 1996 and 2011 censuses, thus Gauteng now has the largest population of any province in South Africa, though the smallest area.
