Thanks for sharing your view, saying that an "association is usually an
association of members and they have the major role in the organization
life" - but you say that in ISOC it "*seems* that all other parts of the
organization are more important than the membership."
It does not only *seem* to be so. The 22 August 2012/[ISOC] NEWS
RELEASE: Internet Society Welcomes Sofie Maddens as Senior Director of
Global Services/, says clearly how the Chief Operating Officer of ISOC
sees the Internet Society as it is now:
*"The Internet Society is a global organization, at the heart of which
are our Regional Bureaus," said Walda Roseman, Chief Operating Officer
of the Internet Society."*
At the Annual General Meeting of our Chapter yesterday, there was the
question raised strongly by Board and general Members why this is so,
and if it is not changing, what is the point of being Members? But these
voices were countered with reference to the role to play in the changing
difficult dynamics of the information society in Cambodia, and to
solidarity experienced from other Chapters. And the hope that the
Internet Society's new Bylaws would bring fundamental changes.
