Dear colleagues,

It seems the project needs some more clarification for some of us.

In order to allow you all a better understanding of the mission and objectives of this thematic network project, I herewith provide you with some broader information. It all fits into the Digital Agenda of the EU. It should be clear that such projects are on the radar of Internet Society, especially when it concerns individual privacy elements on the internet. Furthermore Internet Society chapters are active in many structures across the globe as well as at regional and national level that follow the concept of multi stakeholderism. Where appropriate it is Internet Society's mission to bring expertise and knowledge, inside visions and experiences in these projects.

This project is different from the STORK project in the sense it is touching upon different topics and elements and will be a complement to the STORK reports. There is a close relationship between both projects. There are also other projects in this domain, but we, ISOC Belgium, consider them not being our piece of cake today, also as we have limited resources to do so. Other chapters are welcome to do so. And as we see ISOC Slovenia is also involved in such projects (STORK). The more ISOC chapters are participating in EU projects the better we will be perceived as an organisation with knowledge and understanding of the needs of the internet community and vision on what should be integrated in the next policy and governance discussions and decisions. While Internet is virtual still the use is very practical and physical.

> A single European digital community
>
> will be a major transformational impetus to further enhance the economic strength and political cohesion of European society as the next logic step from the achievements of the Single Market.
>
> The network will identify the actions and the timetable for the Digital Agenda (DAE) and the successful launch of the European Innovation Partnership (EIP), as well as provide a multi stakeholder planning resource to assist its implementation. This will lay foundations for a Single European Digital Identity Community as part of the Digital Agenda for Europe,
>
> The ambition of this network, led by NESTOR, is to build a community of high level European and international experts in the coming 3 years. This community will be built via virtual tools such as a dedicated online workspace and online conferences etc as well as via real live events integrated in the EEMA conference programme and other major European events.
>
> The vision to be established by the Network can be a beacon to the rest of the world, demonstrating how the efficiency of a digital community can be translated into cultural and economic leadership. Although the vision will need to be technology led, it cannot be technology targeted; rather, the vision should integrate goals derived from stakeholder sector needs and benefits and within a holistic framework of actions.
>
> Expected Outcomes
>
> This is not intended to be an academic exercise. The outcomes are sufficiently operational to enable the European Commission to instigate the necessary measures to move all Member States towards the fulfilment of the vision.
>
> Outcome 1:
>
> SSEDIC will create for each Stakeholder Sector an electronically retrievable resource, containing the main consultations, consensus and impacts. This should enable the entire European Community to conduct actions that will ultimately contribute to or benefit from the Single European Digital Identity Community.
>
> Outcome 2:
>
> SSEDIC will create at the technical level an electronically retrievable roadmap of critical actions, milestones and timelines. This roadmap will outline how to achieve the vision of the Single European Digital Identity Community.
>
> Outcome 3:
>
> SSEDIC will create a combined topological mapping of all the Stakeholder and Technical Sectors, which will be integrated into this single high level roadmap. This mapping will ensure that role/responsibility divisions and expectations are clear to all stakeholders.
>
> Outcome 4:
>
> SSEDIC will create a combined impact assessment summary, across all the Stakeholder and Technical Sectors integrating all business and regulatory issues.

If above is not clear enough, please visit the website www.eid-ssedic.eu.

Anyhow, we are now making progress in the setup of the survey, we already received interesting comments and added value and will integrate them asap. We still welcome any suggestion and/or comments. A next version of proposal will be send latest end of this week.
