Well said Alejandro. I agree. ISOC will have given full due diligence to
this appointment and from the comments of people who know Paul Brigner, he
has a lot to offer ISOC and has obviously done so in the past. I think we
should move on and work on the more positive aspects of our recent gathering
in San Jose. I enjoyed meeting so many of you and being able to put faces to
the names in this list, and I look forward to our continued and interesting
dialogues.

David, Walda, all,
the beauty of this is that we can find out quickly the reasons to worry and
the reasons to not.
Many of us face daily, inch-by-inch attempts by the industry of which the
MPAA is a visible face to eviscerate the heart of the Internet. Those of us
who live in capital cities - some of you in DC, others around the world
- face a constant suspicion of getting too cozy or at least into a Stockholm
syndrome by coexistence with lobbies and the powers of government.
So a little sunlight hurts nobody, and it's heartening to see the level of
vigilance and attention we all give to events like this designation. ISOC HQ
and Board (Jason) should be proud. North-American chapters will provide the
litmus test most acutely.
And, that said, let's get the relation with the chapters right. My view is
that the order is being reversed, and that we should go first through the
pending - and possibly ongoing - Bylaw revision, then to the LoA. And in the
meantime, continue having a high-level discussion of the relationship, of
which one event was the meeting in Costa Rica last week. With ratified good
faith and collaboration taking place we should be able to have an active,
lively relationship to discuss and not only its formalities.
