It appears that the powers that be are looking to backtrack on the DNS
provisions of SOPA/PIPA.

While this, on the one hand, is good news, the whole fuss has tended to
overshadow the other censorious aspects of the proposed legislation, which
may indeed pass the vote on the 23rd. It is still my personal guess that
Congress will delay to provide further opportunities for handsome campaign
contributions from all sides, but we cannot be sure.
Here in the USA a major protest is gaining momentum for this Wednesday Jan
18 in the form of a blackout of sites. For many this will just take the
form of a black landing page that can be bypassed by clickingbut some sites
such as Reddit and, possibly, Wikipedia, may shut down entirely.

In NYC a major rally will take place outside the offices of our U.S.
