Greetings, Sally.
It is disheartening to see the blunt weapon response that DNS filtering is being proposed as. It is heartening to see your very readable (by layperson) explanation and position document.
The problem, in my humble opinion, is that regulatory, and government/legal, bodies will nod their heads at our position and concerns, but, go on with implementing DNS filtering because we, the industry, and stakeholders, have not proposed an effective counter-proposal.
When in doubt about a law or tool that is too harsh and simple protestations about it from the other side (people like us), such bodies will generally err on the side of using the harsh tool rather than appear like they ignored whatever problem they perceived themselves as solving.
It behooves us all, and the industry in general, to come up with some specific solution frameworks to address the challenges.
These are all, of course, my personal opinions.

Imran Anwar

Because this paper will help inform an IGF Workshop in September, we would appreciate if you could send us any comments as soon as possible but not later than FRIDAY, 09 SEPTEMBER. This way, we will have time to consider all the views as we put together a final version.
