Hi Thomas,
Our chapter does not invest directly time and effort in FB , but we do invest a lot in communicating (including information and education regarding privacy issues) with people using FB.
Why ? Let's take a look at some local facts and figures :
At this time, Facebook says that Romania has 3,728,280 users (out ouf 20 milion total population - it's almost 25% !), the number of female and male users are in balance: 50% of them are women and 50% men. In addition, 33% of users are aged between 18 and 24 which sums up a total of 1,193,050 users. The largest increase in the number of users in the last three months has occurred in the interval 25-34 years , reaching a rate of 31% of all users (source http://www.strategy.socialnetworks.ro/2011/ and http://www.manafu.ro/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/infoGrafic_web.jpg ) .
Moreover , we've got 60 INET Bucharest registrations confirmed by FB channel http://www.facebook.com/events/117475621692683/ .
We had to make a choice weather to run away from the FB problem of face it.
We decided to fight by educating FB users, it's a long term investment, but we see already some encouraging short term results.
Regards,
Ed

Regarding investing time and effort in FB...
Note that Facebook is a privately owned space. Should ISOC take a position against a FB practice, you might find your effort has been wasted.

you know what? It went through. Now I am "waiting for confirmation".

You hacker!
Does it work for Pages? I'd rather hide myself behind the page (and behind two other poor souls that admin our FB page).
One thing I noticed is our poor visual identity.
ISOC logo (especially the official "chapter logo") does fit
very poorly into current trends of square profile images.
I love Joly's solution to this problem; I decided to get rid of the ISOC
right-hand-side hatch to make it more readable.
I am all against "harmonization" i.e. making all chapters forcibly
look the same and use the same identity, but please DO check
how your logo looks in a cut-down and scaled-down square form.
It's easy to see on Facebook on our page "who likes us":

(requires FB login)
Same problem applies to sites like Twitter, actually.
