[Chapter-delegates] UN CSTD Consultation/Secretary General report on WSIS Implementation

Dear Members,

 

The UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) is the
"focal point to assist the UN Council in system-wide follow-up to the World
Summit on the Information Society (WSIS)[1]". The Council requests that the
Secretary-General inform the Commission on progress made at the regional and
international levels. 

 

The CSTD has invited the Internet Society to send a contribution towards the
elaboration of the annual report of the Secretary-General[2] to the
Commission.  We are invited to provide details of best and effective
practices, lessons learned, actions, initiatives and important measures
needed for further implementation of the Summit outcomes. We are also
encouraged to indicate any obstacle or difficulty encountered in the
implementation of the WSIS Action Lines, and to make proposals to the
Commission for possible action. 

 

The Secretary-General's report will serve as the main substantive report for
the CSTD's annual session to be held in Geneva from 21 to 25 May 2012. 

 

As many of you are engaged in the implementation of the WSIS outcomes, your
perspective and experience is very important. I would be grateful if you
could send me your thoughts and contributions following the attached
reporting template by 25 November so we can consider them in developing our
response.
