font-family:Arial'>The UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development
(CSTD) is the “focal point to assist the UN Council in system-wide
follow-up to the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS)<a
style='mso-footnote-id:ftn1' href="#_ftn1" name="_ftnref1" title=""><span
class=MsoFootnoteReference><sup>[1]</sup></span></a>”. The Council
requests that the Secretary-General inform the Commission on progress made at
the regional and international levels. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=2 face=Arial><span style='font-size:10.0pt;
font-family:Arial'><o:p> </o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=2 face=Arial><span style='font-size:10.0pt;
font-family:Arial'>The CSTD has invited the Internet Society to send a
contribution towards the elaboration of the annual report of the Secretary-General<a
style='mso-footnote-id:ftn2' href="#_ftn2" name="_ftnref2" title=""><span
class=MsoFootnoteReference><sup>[2]</sup></span></a> to the Commission.
We are invited to provide details of best and effective practices,
lessons learned, actions, initiatives and important measures needed for further
implementation of the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Summit</st1:City></st1:place>
outcomes. We are also encouraged to indicate any obstacle or difficulty
encountered in the implementation of the WSIS Action Lines, and to make
proposals to the Commission for possible action. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
