THE INTERNET SOCIETY PROMOTES PROJECTS THAT STRENGTHEN THE INTERNET AROUND
THE WORLD

Community Grants Programme Announces 9 Recipients in its 13th Round of
Projects

[Washington, D.C., USA and Geneva, Switzerland - 30 June 2011] -- The
Internet Society (ISOC) today announced funding for nine community-based
projects that advance Internet access, leadership, education, and
development, with a major focus on currently underserved communities.

"The Internet Society is dedicated to ensuring the open development,
evolution and use of the Internet for the benefit of people throughout the
world," said Walda Roseman, Chief Operating Officer of the Internet Society.
"We congratulate ISOC Chapters and Members for taking the initiative to
share with their communities and beyond our mission of making the Internet
accessible to everyone. The Internet Society Community Grants Programme is
designed to encourage innovation and creativity by supporting local and
internationally scalable programmes that promote a robust, accessible and
open Internet. These important projects exemplify the diversity and
collaboration of the rapidly expanding Internet community."

As part of the ISOC Community Grants Programme, each project will receive up
to US$10,000 to implement the projects. Projects funded in this round will:

*	Promote local Internet content in Ethiopia 
*	Provide computer training and Internet access for students and
teachers in Uganda
*	Enable Internet access in Azerbaijan
*	Connect schools in Haiti to the Internet
*	Empower Internet users to understand and contribute to global
Internet policy issues in their local context 
*	Implement a solar-powered Internet kiosk in Kenya
*	Support Internet-enabled math and science education in The Gambia
*	Upgrade the Armenia academic and research network to IPv6 readiness
*	Extend efforts to establish Internet service through the Dili
Village Telco Project in Timor Leste

This is the 13th round of the Internet Society Community Grants, which are
awarded twice each year. The next application round opens in August 2011.
