In the run up to INET New York next Tuesday - this has to be one of
the most intense weeks of local Internet-related activity the chapter
has ever witnessed. We have InternetWeekNY all week with events all
over the city, plus Personal democracy Forum, New York Tech Meetup,
Cloud Expo (big!), Digital Summit 2011, the Webbies, Ignite NYC,
Startup weekend, The ReadWriteWeb 2WAY Summit, The World Innovation
Forum - just to name a few! Oh and, there's even something called
#TECHmunch - a Food Blogger Conference!

The one indispensable resource for finding information about most, if
not all, is Gary Sharma's guide http://newyork.garysguide.org/events
and more can be found on the InternetWeekNY site at
http://www.internetweekny.com/schedule

That said, naturally the main purpose of this email is to inform you
of our own ISOC-NY events..

== World IPv6 Day - Jun 8 - Wrap up meetup at NYU ==

On 8 June, 2011, the Internet Society will present World IPv6 Day.
Google, Facebook, Yahoo!, Akamai and Limelight Networks will be
amongst some of the major organisations that will offer their content
over IPv6 for a 24-hour 'test flight'. The goal of the Test Flight Day
is to motivate organizations across the industry - Internet service
providers, hardware makers, operating system vendors and web companies
- to prepare their services for IPv6 to ensure a successful transition
as IPv4 addresses run out.

Since the day is based on UTC it will conclude at 8pm EDT. ISOC-NY
will present an informal wrap up meetup at NYU starting at 7pm EDT.
Among those who have promised to attend will be Sagi Brody of Webair
who will give a brief talk on that company’s IPv6 implementation
efforts.

== INET New York - Jun 14 ==

You should need no further introduction to the biggest event ever
mounted by the Chapter, coming in just one week's time. Suffice it to
say we are very excited to be hosting such Internet luminaries as Vint
Cerf and Tim Berners Lee, and also looking forward to some good give
and take on the panels. Three points..

1) The event is not, as yet, sold out. Once we had secured the
speakers we deliberately moved it to a larger venue so that we could
handle a decent crowd We DO NOT want to see any empty seats. So now is
the time for all good men and women to come to the aid of the party
and help get the word out - forward the 'call for attendees' email;
print out the flyer; tweet; retweet; tell your friends; go to the
facebook event and invite people, etc, etc. It's not for nothing the
theme is "It's Your Call: What kind of Internet do you want?" - the
operative word is YOU!

2) The Internet Society has always promoted awareness of the needs of
the disabled community. Not only will the INET be wheelchair
accessible, but also there will be projected live text transcription
provided.

3) As an "open" Chapter ISOC-NY has many members in distant places, we
haven't forgotten you either. If you can't make it to INET NY in
person, we WILL have remote participation - a live webcast - and also
a system that will permit participants both local and remote to ask -
and vote on - questions for the panelists. In fact you can start on
this right now. The link is http://inetny.backchan.nl/
