hi Siva,
Apologies for the slow reply in getting back to you on the suggestion
below to consider one or two IETF fellowship awards to candidates
recommended by the Chapter. I have now heard back from the Internet
Learning Programmes (ILP) team at ISOC to whom I sent this email.
They are very encouraged by the idea and the energy behind the
suggestion. However as noted, the IETF fellowship process is an open
application process where anyone can apply. It has its own timelines
and decisions etc. and to integrate that with any kind of external
process would actually be very difficult and would perhaps not give
the outcomes you are after. As of today, each person can still apply.
However the good news is that ISOC is currently in the planning and
development stages of a number of new IETF visibility and outreach
programmes that would help improve not only awareness and
understanding of the work of the IETF, but also increase participation
from talented and interested individuals from around the world.
(Remembering that participation is often more about the work on the
mailing lists than it is face-to-face). It is hoped that these
initiatives will also assist in helping to drive up interest in and
membership of Chapters. As soon as the ILP team have a firmer
platform for the new offerings (in 2011), we will reach out to the
Chapter Delegates with our thoughts and requests for input.
If you have any follow up questions, you can contact the team at <ilp-team at isoc.org
>.
I hope this helps,
Anne
