To All Chapter delegates

At its recent meeting, the Internet Society's Board of Trustees approved
PIR's request to file the applications with ICANN for .NGO. Below is
additional information, as well as a website that PIR has developed with
more details on this important initiative. Should you have any questions,
contact PIR directly: http://pir.org/contact

On August 1st, PIR formally announced its intention to pursue the .NGO
domain extension while continuing to manage the .ORG domain. .NGO will be an
exclusive domain address for self-identified NGOs worldwide who are looking
for a unique online signature to be immediately recognized and to broaden
opportunities for public participation, funding and contributions. The
closed domain will serve as a complementary venue to .ORG, enabling millions
of NGOs worldwide to broaden their audience and make an even stronger
societal impact in any way they can.

"As the Internet stands on the cusp of a major sea-change with the
introduction of new gTLDs, we have the opportunity to broaden and deepen our
mission by applying for a domain extension specifically aimed at the needs
of the global NGO community. The pursuit of .NGO is a natural next step in
our steadfast commitment to serving in the public's interest," said Brian
Cute, CEO of PIR.

Over the next several months, prior to submitting the application in 2012,
PIR will continue to reach out to the NGO community for support and advice.
Staying true to the nature of a community application, PIR will build an
online NGO community, created by the NGO community. To learn more about
.NGO and PIR's initiative for the domain extension, visit www.ngotld.org

Best regards,
