Friends and colleagues,

*Please forgive me for any cross posting*

Yesterday was a sad day for Internet society in South Africa. It appears that the (previously) advantaged telecoms companies have once again been able to influence the policy makers to cancel invitations to apply for spectrum (Gazetted May 28, 2010). This appeared to be the only opportunity on the cards to create more meaningful competition in SA. Not only did they cancel it, but they demonstrated disdain for new and regional entrants by doing it at the last minute without any justification (that which was published only applied to the national ITA).

Please can you assist me to distribute the attached ISOC-ZA press release (also at http://isoc.org.za), blog it, tweet or send it to any journalists you may know. It would be great to see it in mainstream and international media so that more people can be made aware and hopefully they will take notice. I will gladly take any media questions telephonically or email. Call +27 21 4091453

Sincerely

Alan
