Dear Colleagues,
The following application for a Chapter in Lebanon has been received. It
is being sent to this list for peer comment and review.
Please note that the Chapter is not yet formed and has not officially
been recognised by ISOC.
If there are people on this list that know the individuals proposing to
establish the Chapter, feedback is especially welcome.
The period allowed for comments is two weeks and the deadline is January
25, 2010.

*Chapter Application*
A. Proposed name of the Chapter
Lebanon Chapter of the Internet Society
B. Community of Interest the Chapter will to serve
Lebanon
C. Purpose and Scope of Chapter
The Lebanon Chapter intends to serve the Lebanese community of interest.
Being a member of the ISOC is the perfect way to do it as we can be
aligned with the global Internet community at large.
Specifically, the Lebanon Chapter of the Internet Society aims to
support and promote the following:
a - All inclusive multi-stakeholders platform for all Internet users and
promoters to discuss and resolve solve issues of concern
b - Access of information to all: The Chapter will focus on promoting
the positive usage of the Internet and its applications on education,
health, sciences, culture, inclusion, e-government, business,
e-commerce, media and entertainment.
c - Support the development of local content
d - Growth and evolution of the Internet architecture: the establishment
of the Beirut Internet Exchange Point is a good start for the Chapter to
leverage on.
e - Maintenance and evolution of effective administrative processes
necessary for operation of the global Internet and internets: the
Chapter will advise on and promote how critical Internet resources will
be managed in Lebanon according to international best practices.
f - Education and research related to the Internet and internetworking.
g - Collection and dissemination of information related to the Internet
and internetworking, including histories and archives.
h - Liaison with other organisations, governments and the general public
for coordination, collaboration, and education in effecting the above
purposes.

E. List of Supporters
The founding members are well connected to the various Internet
stakeholders in Lebanon. In particular they have founded the Lebanese
Broadband Stakeholders Group (www.broadbandlebanon.org) of whom they can
get the support. Also, the founding members are confident that they get
the support of
- the WSIS follow-up committee within the Ministry of OMSAR
- the Partnership for Lebanon (Microsoft, Intel, Cisco)
- various professional organizations
- various NGOs and civil societies
F. List of Requirements
The Chapter will hire a lawyer who will prepare the forms required to
register the Lebanon Chapter of the Internet Society as an NGO with the
Lebanese authorities.
