HI Bill,

Here in NYC, ISOC-NY have a close working relationship with the NYC
Council Technology in Government committee. For some years we have
webcast their public hearings and also assisted with their web
presence. To further aid civic awareness we also maintain a bi-weekly
tv program on local public access

Initiatives events we have promoted/covered include the multi-borough
hearings of the City's Broadband Advisory Council; hearings on open
data, webcasting policy, net neutrality, spectrum allocation, and
policies to spur innovation in the tech sector.

In 2009 ISOC-NY sponsored a major forum to review, on its 25th
anniversary, the results of the AT&T divestiture.

ISOC-NY takea an active role in ICANN, both as an At-Large Structure
in the North Amercian Regional At-Large Organization, and as member of
the Noncommercial Users Constituency. When, late in 2009, there was
disagreement between the two groups over proposed changes in
representation within ICANN, ISOC-NY took the initiative in setting up
a meeting to bring the two sides together.

In late 2008, in co-operation with NYU, ISOC-NY sponsored a series of
presentations 'Computers & Society' with leading thinkers such as
Lawrence Lessig, John Perry Barlow, etc. A new series is planned for
late 2010.

ISOC-NY has provided funding and active logistical support for the
annual OneWebDay celebration, including live webcasting, workshops,
and co-sponsoring a major forum in 2008 'Participation and Politics
Online'.

All these events can be viewed at http://isoc-ny.org/webcasts - thanks
to ISOC funding we are able to make DVDs available for free to
educators, libraries, and other interested parties.
