I would like to bring to your attention remarks on "Preserving Internet Freedom and Openness" made today by Julius Genachowski, Chair of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC). A complete text of his statement is available at:
http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DOC-303136A1.pdf
While the FCC has not released the specifics of the proposal referenced in those remarks, we will be closely tracking this issue.
The Internet Society remains committed to the fundamental view that openness is the overarching principle that has ensured the success and growth of the Internet to date. As we have stated previously, including recently at the European “Summit on the Open Internet and Net Neutrality in Europe", we believe that access, competition and transparency are at the heart of this complex policy debate. For more information, see:
http://www.isoc.org/internet/issues/openinternet.shtml
We will share the FCC's proposal in more detail as soon as it is publicly available.
