Dear Colleagues,

Back in March I wrote to this list to request help from Chapter
delegates (and from those in the Sphere Project) to re-shape the ISOC
Chapter Policies and Procedures:

   or tiny URL http://tinyurl.com/yzxssxd

Since then, work has been ongoing in the Sphere Labels group. We
prepared and circulated on this list a high level document "Principles
of Affiliation" and also opened a blog for comments (http://wiki.chapters.isoc.org/tiki-view_blog.php?blogId=3
), and received very positive feedback on the document. The document
was also translated into Spanish by Sebastian Ricciardi.

The next piece of work is the framework itself. The challenge is to be
sufficiently flexible in the framework to accommodate our cultural,
linguistic and economic diversity. At the same time, we want the
framework to support us in our work to really make the "Internet for
Everyone". Rather than focus on policies or procedures per se, we
would like to start at the end by listening to your input on:

* what does "success" look like for a Chapter?

Work has begun already in the Sphere Analysis group, who designed a
survey and collected data from the Chapters. This will provide
valuable information as a starting point into the conversation.

To help us, we have enlisted assistance from two very experienced
people: Peggy Hoffman and Peter Houstle from Mariner Management.
They have 25 years experience in providing support and assistance to
associations and to Chapters. Peggy is the author of : "The Chapter
of the Future" at: http://www.marinermanagement.com/resources/chapters-components/chapter-future
. Their role will be to act as a guide in our conversations and to
bring their experience of what works and does not to the discussion
table.

INVITATION
We would like to extend an invitation to anyone with an interest in
helping to define the "ISOC chapter of the future" to join us on a
series of calls to be scheduled over the following weeks.
We will also be inviting individuals in order to get a representation
of the diversity across the Chapters. The calls will be in English,
but smaller groups can also convene and send in their input. The calls
will also be recorded so that people can send in comments at a later
date.

- calls 1 : UTC 10.30, UTC 20.00 - 11th November
- calls 2 : UTC 10.30, UTC 20.00 - 25th November
- calls 3 : UTC 10.30, UTC 20.00 - 9th December
- calls 4 : UTC 10.30, UTC 20.00 - 22nd December.

If you would like to take part in a call, please join the sphere-
labels group by emailing <chapter-support at isoc.org>. There is also a
sphere-labels LAC group.

I have also asked Peter Houstle to join us remotely, via Marratech at
the forthcoming Chapters and members meeting in Seoul on Wednesday
28th October so that a number of you have the opportunity to "e-meet"
him.

Lastly I should add thanks to Marcin Cieslak for his prompting us in
this direction.

Best wishes,

Anne
