INTERNET SOCIETY AND LATIN AMERICAN INTERNET LEADERS GATHER IN PANAMA
FOR INET REGIONAL CONFERENCE
Panama City, Panama - 29 May 2009 - Leading Latin American and
international technologists and policy makers will gather in Panama
City on Friday, 29 May, for the INET Latin America Regional
Conference, organized by the Internet Society to bring together
regional Internet leaders to explore emerging issues of significance
to Internet development, deployment, and use.
The INET conference is being held alongside the LACNIC XII Conference,
also being held this week in Panama City, which brings together
representatives from different sectors of the Latin American and
Caribbean Internet community, academia, civil society,
telecommunications industry leaders, and government to discuss issues
such as regional interconnection initiatives, IPv6 deployment, network
security, and Internet policy.
The INET program will feature a presentation on Internet Governance by
Raúl Echeberría, ISOC Board of Directors member and LACNIC Executive
Director.
"INET conferences provide a critical venue for fostering communication
and collaboration among regional Internet leaders," said Sebastian
Bellagamba, manager of the Internet Society's Latin American Bureau.
"Local challenges and opportunities are best met by action that
leverages both the technical expertise and policy experience of
leading Internet community experts."
