Many thanks Olivier,
I also listened to the live audiocast and found it quite interesting, but a bit short. Yes, I also concur that given the title, one would have expected a sort of listing of the seven steps towards IPv6 deployment.

Hello Gerald Ross,
If it was a fantastic session as Oliver says, please do have it transribed as well. ( Marked it down to tune in, but missed it )

Fantastic session.
Leslie mentioned that the audiocast will be also available for
download - but will it be transcribed as well?
I do have one question, though - regarding the name of the session
itself.
As I understand, the Seven Stages related to each expert's topic.
However, in my mind, I was hoping that we'd be hearing about the
seven steps towards IPv6 adoption, something like:
1. perform an audit of your current IPv4 addressing
2. check for IPv6 connectivity with your ISP
3. replace backbone equipment.. etc.
....until you reach 7. :-)
Would other chapters find such a "roadmap" to IPv6 interesting?
Apart from that, I thoroughly enjoyed the live audiocast, was
disappointed that it was so short and that no feedback/questions were
possible online.
One question that was asked by a gentleman at C|Net related to "what
new applications will be possible with IPv6"
In addition to what the panel said, might I add:
a. new applications will enable someone at home to access their office
computer network without having to set-up a VPN. This makes it a lot
more secure & will promote teleworking.
b. having IPv6 on any and all devices out there brings a single
communication standard to any electronic device. This means that there
is no barrier to all of those devices talking to each other and since
there is a single addressing standard, economies of scale will happen.
I easily see the adding of IPv6 Wifi conectivity to any device costing
no more than a few dollars or less - depending on how soon IC
manufacturers release an integrated circuit with these properties.
This means that your MP3, TV, Computer, PDA, phone, camera etc. can
all speak to each other at all times using a universal non-proprietary
standard and *you* can access them from anywhere else on the Internet.
c. sensor networks - the internet of things - will be able to use the
same addressing; whether it's sensors for an alarm system, heat or
cold sensors, the temperature of your refrigerator (or a webcam
inside), the washing machine has just finished its cycle, whether
there's still coffee in the coffee machine, gas in your car, or
whether your lawn needs to be mowed & your house lights can be turned
on/off.
d. IPv6 emergency broadcast services using Multicast - suitable for
Tsunami & Earthquake alerts.
...and much much more...
Well done and thanks to the ISOC Team for organising this & keep up
the good work!
Olivier

-------------------------------------------------
Live audiocast starting soon:
http://www.isoc.org/isoc/conferences/ipv6panel/
-------------------------------------------------
A live audiocast will be available from a panel of experts from
industry and other Internet thought leaders discussing the pressing
need to adopt Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) to ensure the
continued growth of the Internet as a platform for innovation.
The panel will be moderated by Leslie Daigle, the Chief Internet
Technology Officer at the Internet Society. Each panelist will have
a few minutes to provide initial remarks on different topics
relating
to IPv6. The panelists for this event include:
* Jari Arkko, Ericsson Research
* Sebastian Bellagamba, Internet Society
* Lorenzo Colitti, Google
* Alain Durand, Comcast
* Russ Housely, IETF Chair
* Richard Jimmerson, American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN)
* Kurtis Lindqvist, Netnod
The Internet Society, a nonprofit organization that provides
leadership, vision and valued expertise in addressing issues that
impact the future of the Internet, is sponsoring the panel in
conjunction with this week's meeting of the Internet Engineering
Task Force (IETF), the Internet's premier technical standards body.
