[Chapter-delegates] OneWebDay 2009

Dear Colleagues,

In the past years many Chapters participated in a global, decentralised
event called "OneWebDay" (OWD). The OneWebDay theme this year is "One
Web. For All." It will be focusing on the need to provide access,
education, and empowerment to anyone who wants to get online. The idea
is to have OneWebDay teams to organize days of volunteer technology
service on and before September 22.

An ISOC OneWebDay mailing list <Onewebday at elists.isoc.org> exists
already to facilitate co-ordination and discussion among Chapters. If
your Chapter is interested in participating in OneWebDay 2009 and would
like to be added to this mailing list, please send email to
<chapter-support at isoc.org>.

Attached below is more information about this year's OneWebDay sent by
Nathaniel James to the OneWebDay mailing list. On the mentioned new
social network for OWD organisers <http://my.OneWebDay.org/> I have set
up a group called "ISOC Chapters and Members" and you are invited to
join this group.

Thanks,
Sabrina Wilmot

Dear ISOC members and friends of OneWebDay,

This week, we announced _our new Web site_ <http://www.onewebday.org/>,
our new social network for OWD organizers - _my.OneWebDay.org_
<http://my.OneWebDay.org/>, and our 2009 theme: "One Web. For All."

Check out my first blog post from as Executive Director, Nathaniel
James:
_http://onewebday.org/2009/06/29/onewebday-2009-the-big-what-if%E2%80%A6/_

I know many of you have been energetic OWD organizers and supporters -
it's time to start pulling together OWD09! I hope you can act soon to
help us build early momentum! If you plan to support or organize for
OneWebDay, there are 2 steps you can take right now. All told, these
actions should take about 10-20 minutes.

1) Be amongst the first members to sign up for _my.OneWebDay.org_
<http://my.onewebday.org/>, our new social network and collaboration
platform for participating organizations and volunteer organizers. Here
are some things you can do immediately:

- Upload a picture for your profile. Let's set a precedent for new
members. It looks so much more lively and inviting when you can
actually see the people in the community.

- Join or start a group: ISOC has a group already here
<http://my.onewebday.org/group/ISOC>. If you plan to help out at the
local level, _start a group_
<http://my.onewebday.org/groups/group/new> for your local team. We
already have the 12 local groups started. Consider naming your local
group something short and snappy (SEA OWD for Seattle, DC OWD for
Washington, DC, etc). For some, it will make sense to start a national
group on my.OneWebDay as well as a groups for particular cities. One
exciting feature: local OWD Teams will be mapped
at _http://onewebday.org/onewebday-teams/_. Don't forget to add a
picture for your group, too.

2) For those who represent organizations: please let us know if we can
add you to our list of Participating Organizations
at _http://onewebday.org/participating-organizations/_. Please let me
know specifically how you would like to be listed: email
njames at onewebday.org <mailto:njames at onewebday.org>. Later on, we will
shoot to post logos if you would like your logo to show as your link on
that page.

If you have more time now, please help us recruit people to be
organizers and join my.OneWebDay.org. Blog it, Tweet it, forward this
email widely to appropriate lists!

Please let me know if you have any questions. OneWebDay is powered by
your ideas, your energy, and your action. Thank you so much for your
early involvement and support in OWD09!

Sincerely,

Nathaniel James
