INTERNET SOCIETY JOINS LIBERTY ALLIANCE MANAGEMENT BOARD

Move Marks Importance of Identity Management Across Internet
Initiatives, Highlights Benefits of Cross-Industry Collaboration in
the Identity Sector

Washington, D.C.--February 24, 2009--Liberty Alliance, the global
identity community working to build a more trustworthy Internet for
businesses, governments and people, today announced that the Internet
Society (ISOC) has become a member of the Liberty Alliance Management
Board. ISOC joins 2009 Liberty Alliance board members from AOL, BT,
CA, Fidelity Investments, Intel, Novell, NTT, Oracle and Sun
Microsystems. The management board is responsible for driving the
strategic direction of Liberty Alliance on a global basis.

The Internet Society is an independent international nonprofit
organization founded in 1992 to provide leadership in Internet related
standards, education and policy. As a Liberty Alliance board member,
ISOC has a leadership role in ongoing Liberty Alliance collaboration
activities, working with other standards bodies, industry groups and
identity-related organizations, to help foster interoperability and
harmonization of Internet-based initiatives, specifications and
protocols.

According to Lucy Lynch, director of trust and identity initiatives,
ISOC, "The Internet Society is pleased to join Liberty Alliance in
promoting and developing the technical foundations of online identity
and trust that will be crucial in supporting interoperable, secure and
privacy-preserving applications and services on the Internet. ISOC is
eager to participate in Liberty Alliance's well-established
collaborative processes to help ensure that the specifications upon
which these new technologies are built will promote continued
innovation and serve the interests of all Internet users around the
world. The discipline and experience reflected in Liberty Alliance's
processes, specifically related to specification development based on
clearly identified market requirements, provide an excellent platform
to positively impact progress in the identity space."

About Liberty Alliance
Liberty Alliance is the only global identity community with a
membership base that includes technology vendors, consumer service
providers and educational and government organizations working
together to build a more trustworthy Internet by addressing the
technology, policy and privacy aspects of digital identity management.
The membership structure includes opportunities for individuals,
government and nonprofit organizations to participate at reduced
rates, or free-of-charge, and a growing ecosystem of industry-specific
special interest groups (SIGs), formed by market leaders active in
Liberty Alliance, such as eGovernment and Healthcare, working to
ensure their specialized identity management and services requirements
are being met by emerging technology and policy frameworks. A list of
