Dear Colleagues,

In 2008, as many of you know, Chapter leaders identified a need for
procedures describing how to conduct a consultation between ISOC
Global and ISOC Chapters. A voluntary work group consisting of ISOC
individual members, Chapter leaders and staff was established as part
of the Sphere Project (http://wiki.chapters.isoc.org/tiki-index.php?page=Sphere+Project
) called "Sphere Consult". As part of the process the group tested
their own procedures by launching a consultation on the proposed
consultation procedures and the process was also used by Bill Graham
as part of a policy consultation.

The resulting document "Procedures for conducting a consultation with
Chapters and ISOC Global" (http://www.isoc.org/isoc/chapters/guidelines/consultation_procedures.shtml
) was recently approved by the ISOC Executive team. A template ""Best
Practice" summary guidelines for conducting a Consultation in ISOC"
was also developed as a helpful summary for anyone wishing to conduct
a consultation. Both the 'consultation guideline' and the template
document can be found linked from: http://www.isoc.org/isoc/chapters/guidelines/
. The procedures document has also been translated into French and
Spanish and will be available on the website soon after a review has
been completed. The document is also linked off the ISOC Public
Policy page: http://www.isoc.org/pubpolpillar/.

On behalf of the Sphere Consult project group, we hope that the
resulting documents are useful to anyone in ISOC wishing to conduct a
consultation.

My sincere thanks to all those who were involved in the work, in
particular Fred Baker who chaired the group, Susan Estrada for her
part in writing up the original draft of the document and everyone who
participated in the Sphere Consult discussions and conference calls.
Now that the work of the group is over, the group will be closed.

Thank you and best wishes,

Anne
