Dear Chapter Delegates, Chapter Steering Committee, and AMS PoCs:
The “alpha version” of the new ISOC Chapter portal was demonstrated
July 21st to members of the Chapter Steering Committee (CSC ), and all
those who had previously indicated an interest in the portal. Thanks
once again to everyone who provided feedback during and after that
session.
We have now incorporated many changes suggested, and would like to
extend an invitation to the CSC, the AMS Point of Contacts, and to
members of the Chapter delegates mailing list to review the Beta
version of the portal.
This Beta version of the portal will have many enhancements, several
driven directly by the feedback from the last session, including:
1) Better look and feel overall (including updated terminology to
more closely match ISOC processes)
2) Sign-up for Chapter membership more prominent earlier in the
sign-up workflow
3) More member types available in the system
4) Ability for zero-value memberships to automatically renew
In order to accommodate the greatest number of participants globally,
this time around we will be hosting two separate sessions:
September 9th: UTC 11:30 and the second at UTC 20:00
With these two scheduled demos we are hoping that everyone will have
the opportunity to choose a suitable time.
About the Chapter Portal
ISOC is still in the process of implementing a new Association
Management System (AMS). The software package called Aptify will be
the central data holding and management platform for all data on ISOC
Chapters, their members, ISOC individual members, organizational
members, and events.
The ISOC Chapter Portal will be the interface through which chapters
will interact with the new system. The portal to be demonstrated on
September 9th is still the "Phase II" Chapter portal - it is intended
as a replacement for the Q/GoMembers portal currently deployed, but it
is NOT the open-source platform portal that is the ultimate goal for
the long-term AMS project. (The Phase III open-source version will
replace the Phase II version in 2010.) Therefore, there may be limits
to what feedback & requirements gathered from this session can be
incorporated into this portal to be launched on October 15th.
As before, please reply to this email if you are interested (and which
session is best for you), and I will send out a Webex invitation to
each participant. Webex is screen-sharing software that supports most
browsers & operating systems, including many open-source: http://support.webex.com/support/system-requirements.html
. We will also provide local toll-free voice.conference numbers to
most countries for this session, via our ISOC conferencing service.
Thanks and we look forward to hearing from you --
