If you think doing a global INET (we do not need to wait for 2011), I
think the most important question is where this meeting fit in the
middle of all these meetings:
http://www.isoc.org/isoc/conferences/events/
and there are a couple of Internet meetings which are missing, like
web2.0, Internet world, ...
Then you can add all peripherals meetings on ICT, like LinuxWorld, Apple
expo, Comdex, CeBIT, Location 2.0, WSIT, ...
So the question, is what will make INET unique that people want to
attend it rather than other meetings, the other questions, is what will
make the meeting unique that people want to sponsor it.
You have also to look at the financial model, which will drive how the
meeting is organised.
INET meetings went down because of a couple of financial factors:
-The meeting fee was about USD700 per person
-Speakers were sponsored, top speakers were paid to participate
-Hosting was done in 5 stars hotels
-The expo side was very limited, not attracting corporate sponsors
So at the end the meetings started to cost a lot to ISOC.
Now some hard fact, if INET existed today, from your chapter who can
afford USD4300 per person to attend INET?
USD1500(Ticket)+USD1400(7days hotel)+USD700(meeting fee)+USD700(food and
incidentals)=USD4300
I have some answers, but I'd like yours first...
Cheers
