Erkki,
Sorry but I have heard so many times this excuse that cannot let it pass.
"A large number of people": who is this? A reality or just a statement
thrown up? what is this number? who do they represent?
If you know these people, and what they want, please speak on their behalf.
"the tone of the discussion": what tone? I have used that tone with many
different cultures and people and told them I'm not supposed to know
their culture so please enlighten me, or I will leave you behind and you
will not benefit.
The main difficulty with ISOC at the moment, is that I'm not sure from
where ISOC policy and strategies are coming from? A selected
individuals, or from a consultation with all the membership and more?
For this large number of people, please state, by which ever way you
feel confident (skype, jabber, personal e-mail, phone call), what you
would like to see changed or simply what you like/dislike.
As I said before, we do not do mind reading, and a participative society
requires people to participate and express themselves.
I know language is a barrier, but we have enough people in many
languages that you could post here in your own language and we will find
someone to translate into English what you mean. I think no one has
taken offense for someone posting in non-english. Most of us, English is
not our first language, so been there, done that...
For other cultural barriers, find a way to reach us. We will try our
best but the onus is on you to get the message to us. When you
registered your chapters with ISOC you knew that part of the
responsibility of the president of the chapter is to participate in ISOC
activities. If you don't want to do that, as Erkki said, participate
elsewhere, but may be not as an ISOC chapter.
Sorry to shake the tree, but sometimes it feels good ;)
