I have read the messages from both you and Veni regarding the survey.  I think I should go ahead and publish the survey based on Veni's request and your suggestions for improvements in the "survey questions".  I know that you implemented your recommended changes for the survey questions in a Google Docs spreadsheet, which is wonderful.  However, I also have some "recommended changes" and see a need for some basic definitions or use of more simplistic language for the survey questions and also have some additional concerns.

First, and this is just an example, your version of the questions has an item that states "Make it difficult for Terrorists and Extreme Groups to use the Internet".  While I can see the direction of your thinking, I am concerned that there may be many different interpretations and opinions about "who is a terrorist" and "what is an extreme group" and other things like "what is pornography" and more amorphous things like what is the line between nurturing, loving and supporting children and taking advantage of them and crossing the line into abuse.  These are all areas that, depending on the mental position of the person taking the survey, may provide very different or even unreliable or incomparable results.

I am also concerned about how the spreadsheet may be used by different people completing the survey.  I was thinking that some might put and "x" in each cell that indicates selection.  Alternatively, someone else might use a numbering scheme to indicate the relative strength of their feelings about each statement.  I don't think this alternative provides a more easily understood survey tool.

I'll work on the version I shared with Veni over our Holiday Weekend...
