Joly,
The Kizuman sattellite does not reach us, as all the satellite with an
Asia-Pacific footprint. There are very little satellite available,
INTELSAT, PANAMSAT (INTELSAT) and NEWSKIES. There is a new satellite for
iInternet on trans-pacific flights and that's promising. But a 1Mb/s
symetric link on these satellite is about USD7,000/month.
There is a project for a SPIN cable (cf press releases on
www.picisoc.org) to link countries from New Caledonia to Tahiti. I
understand the cost is 1MUSD per year for a 150Mb/s (I don't think you
need to pay any capital costs). This would put the 1Mb/s at
USD500/month. But 1MUSD a year is something big for some countries here.
I'm lucky in Fiji to have the SCCN, as the 1Mb/s is sold to us at
USD2000/month. And Internet is really picking up.
Cheers

In my humble opinion, it is like us having the latest Mercedes Benz but the road is only a trail."
