I am pleased to forward the press release below announcing Sebastián  
Bellagamba as Manager of the new Regional Bureau for Latin America  
and the Caribbean for ISOC.  Sebastián may be familiar to many of you  
as the President of ISOC Argentina. He is warmly welcomed to the ISOC  
family. In particular we look forward to Sebastián working closely  
with chapters in this region, bringing the community closer together  
to collectively address both national and regional issues.

Internet Society Opens Regional Bureau for Latin America and the  
Caribbean

Reston, Va. and Geneva, Switzerland – 30th January 2007 - The  
Internet Society (ISOC) announces the opening of a new Regional  
Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean. It will be headed by Mr.  
Sebastián Bellagamba and located in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The Regional Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean will be a  
focal point for ISOC activities including education, capacity  
building and policy initiatives. It will allow the Internet Society  
to work more closely with local ISOC Chapters and the regional  
internet community in its ongoing initiative to understand and  
address local issues relating to the development of the Internet.

The Regional Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean closely  
follows the Regional Bureau for Africa which opened in Ethiopia in  
the third quarter of 2006. Additional bureaus are planned contingent  
upon evaluation of current regional activities.

Mr. Bellagamba, an Argentine citizen living in Buenos Aires, has a  
distinguished career in the development of the Internet in Latin  
America. He served as President of ISOC Argentina, Chair of the ICANN  
ASO Address Council and Chair of the Argentine chapter of the IPv6  
Task Force. He is also an owner of Servicio Satelital S.A., an  
Argentine Internet and telecommunications provider.

Mr. Bellagamba will focus his efforts on assessing the diverse needs  
of the Internet communities in Latin America and the Caribbean and  
working to extend ISOC programs and initiatives in the region.

to support the continued development of the Internet,” says Lynn St.  
Amour, ISOC’s President and CEO, “ISOC extends a warm welcome to  
Sebastián as he joins our organization to lead the Latin American and  
Caribbean Bureau.”

Terry Monroe, ISOC’s Membership Director adds, “We are very pleased  
to have someone with Sebastián’s considerable experience join ISOC as  
its representative in Latin America and the Caribbean.”

Internet Society Abre Oficina Regional para América Latina y el Caribe

Reston, Va. y Ginebra, Suiza – 30 de enero de 2007 – La Internet  
Society (ISOC) anuncia la apertura de una nueva Oficina Regional para  
América Latina y el Caribe. Será encabezada por el Sr. Sebastián  
Bellagamba y estará localizada en Buenos Aires, Argentina.

La Oficina Regional para América Latina y el Caribe será un punto  
focal para las actividades de ISOC, incluyendo educación,  
construcción de capacidades e iniciativas de políticas. Permitirá a  
la Internet Society trabajar más de cerca con los Capítulos locales  
de ISOC y con la comunidad regional de Internet, en su iniciativa ya  
en marcha de entender y atender las cuestiones locales relacionadas  
con el desarrollo de Internet.

La Oficina Regional para América Latina y el Caribe sigue a la  
apertura de la Oficina Regional para África, establecida en Etiopía,  
en el tercer trimestre de 2006. Otras oficinas adicionales están  
planeadas para el futuro, contingentes a la evaluación de las  
actividades regionales en marcha.

El Sr. Bellagamba, ciudadano argentino que vive en Buenos Aires,  
posee una distinguida carrera en el desarrollo de Internet en América  
Latina. Sirve como presidente del Capítulo Argentina de ISOC, como  
Chairman del Concejo de Direcciones de ICANN (ICANN ASO AC) y preside  
el capítulo argentino del Grupo de Trabajo de IPv6. También es  
accionista de Servicio Satelital S.A., un proveedor de Internet y  
telecomunicaciones de Argentina.

El Sr. Bellagamba enfocará sus esfuerzos en atender las diversas  
necesidades de las comunidades de Internet regionales y en trabajar  
para extender los programas e iniciativas de ISOC en la región.
