Why should we have abbreviations? I cannot see how it is easier to say an 
email address with (for example) gva.isoc.org instead of geneva.isoc.org 
when trying to spell it on the phone. GBA? Geeveeyay? What? :-)

I think that we might be over-complicating things here. Keep it simple, 
please.
The ISO official list is okay because it is internationally recognised but 
starting to make-up our own 3 letter official lists wih all regions and 
towns around the world is going to be a complete nightmare, IMHO.

Now of course, the DNS is simple enough to administer these days to offer a 
choice for each chapter whether they wish to have the full name of their 
chapter or a 3-letter code, or both (with one acting as an alias to the 
other). Instead of federating things that don't (really) need to be 
federated, let's offer some freedom of choice and it will avoid a lot of 
lost time discussing things that really don't matter too much.
