[Chapter-delegates] Membership System

The Next ISOC board meeting will be held in the Netherlands (10-11 Feb)
therefore, I would kindly ask chapters are currently using the
membership system to give us a list of pending problems in order to have
a more co-ordinated action.
I think Wladek had this sort of list in the past, if so can we have an
updated list we will try to coordinate the problem at once
Thanks / Rosa

I totally agree with you Luc.
I tried to coach a couple of people in joining ISOC, and even if you
select free global membership, there are a couple of uneccessary screens
related to credit card steps.
Then after you have joined ISOC, you have to log in back again and
select the chapter, once again too many screens...
There should be 3 screens only.
One screen with a form collecting all the information requested
including chapter membership, then the second screen will be "an e-mail
has been sent to you", and on this e-mail a link points you to a third
screen to validate your options and get your credit card number if
needed.
Finaly, you sent me the new members for our chapters for November. But
are those new members or members whose membership has expired and we had
to allow them in again.
Once again 2 flaws here:
-We cannot make the difference on the chapter management from "New
Members" and members whose membership is for renewal
-We have no idea if these members want renewal in fact. Was an e-mail
sent to them, to aske them to revalidate their membership?
If I could enter a member myself simply, but I too have to go through so
many screens... I think I will revert by taking the application to our
chapter directly and send the list to you David to enter in the system.
I fear many chapters are doing that already.
Maybe we should ask a staff in google to make ISOC a proper membership
system. they seem to encourage pet projects and they don't seem to make
complicated interfaces like this, or they would have nobody using their
system.
David, for the FAQ, do you mean someone as to write a thesis on how to
operate the system, rather than make this system simple and obvious?
Let's face the fact, these are not teething problem with the system, it
is grossly inadequate. Where this system comes from? how much was it
bought? What other systems were selected?
Once again this is our lifeblood as chapters, I demand, us chapters, to
be able to be part of the decision process in membership system
selection. Time to report to chapters on the selection process!
Cheers
