Dear Chapter Delegates:

As you know, Internet governance issues have been a longstanding and
important part of ISOC's policy work. ISOC participated and was a key
player in the World Summit on the Information Society and was a major
contributor to the WSIS discussion on Internet governance -
http://www.isoc.org/isoc/conferences/wsis/index.shtml. One of the
outcomes of the WSIS process was the creation of an Internet Governance
Forum (IGF) and consultations on the convening of the Forum have been
announced for 16/17 February in Geneva -
http://www.intgovforum.org/index.htm. A questionnaire on the operation
and focus of the Forum has also now been published on the site -
http://www.intgovforum.org/questionnaire.htm.

We wished to let you know that ISOC is in the process of drafting
responses to the questionnaire and will be sending them out for comment
once they are ready. However, we would welcome any initial views from
our members on the role and functioning of the Internet Governance Forum
in general, and on specific issues raised in the questionnaire. As much
as is possible, please use the memberpubpol list (see:
http://www.isoc.org/members/discuss/policy.shtml) for your responses and
for discussions related to policy and Internet governance.

Many thanks,
Matthew Shears
David McAuley
