Dear Tricia and Reinder,
It is exactly what I suggested some time ago (actually at the time the
specs for the system were drafted, but I reiterated this some days ago
on the BoT mailing list).
I suggested to launch a project for a distributed membership system on
Sourceforge.
ISOC would then need to concentrate on an interface to the current
system, as it cannot be thrown away. It has cost a lot and does much
more than just the 3-4 pages that one sees on the membership site.
This being said, I still believe the current system could be saved by
redesigning the web interface. The basics are there and this is actually
a small job for a proficient web programmer, including multilingualism.
Once again, I think chapters could help ISOC. I guess we do have good
web programmers in our membership, who would be willing to do the for a
small fee. We only need to ask and give a clear description of what we
need. Thanks to the Internet, he/she would not even have to be
physically located in Reston our Geneva. This is another proposal I made
and I hope it will be welcomed.
Best regards,
Patrick
