Perhaps the system should be written under such a license that other
worldwide NGOs could use it for free. They might even want to improve
it!
This requires a little bit of a different development process, with
fictional future users in mind (good documentation required), but it
could be very, very benificial for other worldwide initiatives in
need for collecting information/donations from many individual
members around the globe. With such a system in place worldwide
movements can be mobilised using our modest little system.
When ISOC sponsors can see themselves that the membership system
build with their donations can be used by other organisations it
motivates them to donate. The little text about the license under
which it is written and the link to downloading the source code
should be on every page the system generates. Why not give away what
we paid for? After all, there are no other Internet Society
initiatives on this planet we are competing with, are there?
For example, the site http://petities.nl is build with a 10000 euro
donation from the Dutch government and anyone in the world can get
the sourcecode from me to use it for another country where a website
enabling citizens to easily set up and host petitions is desired.
Anyone interested by the way?
