On behalf of the members of the Internet Society Los Angeles Chapter, the
Officers and Board of Directors, I bring our sincere congratulations to you,
Vint Cerf and Bob Kahn, for winning the ACM Turing Award. Your pioneering
efforts, and especially your continued commitment and support over the
years, have provided us all with a useful Internet - from its basic
protocols, philosophy, and supporting organizations to its continued
development and growth. You have been and continue to be great parents!
One of the significant events in our Chapter's archives is the "Vint Cerf
Dinner" on June 6, 2000 at the LAX Marriott where Vint spoke to a crowded
room about the Internet, from his surprising finds of very remote and
devoted Internet users with hand made satellite connections, through mailing
the post card ground into pieces as an example of how IP does its work, to
the actual use of the Inter-Planetary Internet Protocol for the Mars
missions we had a wonderful evening.
We hope our early recognition of your Award shows you how much the community
you have helped to build appreciates your efforts.
Vint and Bob, you are truly our ambassadors and shining examples of what we
can do when we work together in a truly open environment.
Thank you and please enjoy your well deserved Award next month!
