2. Indonesian Chapter is trying to revive E-Commerce in Indonesia.
With so many fraud cases in the past, E-Commerce in Indonesia has become
nearly non-existent. We are trying to revive it by designing a safe and easy
online payment method. This is a very difficult thing to do because most
banks is afraid to take part in it, and most vendors of I.T. equipments and
softwares are also unwilling to support. However, we do make progress and we
intend to make this work no matter what. If anyone reading this happens to
know anyone who has business in Indonesia and would be willing to support
this effort, please email me hero_tsai at mainsyscon.net
3. Indonesian Chapter is trying to solve software piracy problem in
Indonesia.
Software piracy is a problem for everyone, not just for vendors. However, in
selling their products, vendors has often forgotten that the original
intention of copyright law.
Copyright law was created to promote distribution of products and knowledge,
so that the use maybe beneficial to as many people as possible. When a
person or a company create a product, it will always require some amount of
capital and time to do so, and the primary reason for such creation to take
place is financial gain. Thus copyright protection allows the creator to
enjoy the compensation for the Work, so that the creator may create new
works and so on.
In developing and underdeveloped countries such as Indonesia, the original
intention of the law has been lost due to the unaffordable prices of
copyrighted works. Members of Indonesian Chapter believe that Copyright Law
lose it's purpose and validity when, in enforcing it, a Work becomes
inaccessible to most member of society.
In respond to requests to lower prices to acceptable level (in accordance to
the comparison of the GDP of a buyer's country with the GDP of the creator's
country), most vendors has simply denied it by using various excuses such as
the possibility of re-export into creator's country (which is actually
unwarranted because a simple note such as "for Indonesia only" on the box
should be sufficient for law-abide citizens).
Viewing this condition, Indonesian Chapter is organizing a membership system
for users of proprietary softwares, so that they will be able to pay for the
license on monthly basis, instead of paying full at the time of purchase.
This will spread the burden of the cost and eliminate the possibility of
re-export and similar things because licenses are personal and non
transferable. To entice the people to register themselves, members will be
entitled to receive free training on products that they registered, for as
long as their membership fee is still being paid.
So far, only several local vendors has agreed to join this effort, while
foreign vendors such as Microsoft, Adobe and Macromedia has not given any
respond to our requests.
