I just contacted UNICEF office in Jakarta, and they said that we should
contact DEPDIKNAS (National Departement of Education) because UNICEF help is
also provided based on request from them.
I happens to have relations with some officials in this department and will
try to contact them tomorrow. Will inform about the results.
Also, talking about efficiency of resource utilization, I have an idea for a
simple device, based on magnifying glasses principle, which is intended to
reduce the cost to print books. If it works, books need only to have the
size at 1/8 the width and 1/8 the height of their current size, which will
effectively reduce the cost of materials, printing and shipping down to 1/64
of the current cost. And I believe that most authors will also be willing to
reduce their royalty payment (or even not accepting it at all) for an
emergency situation such as this.
This way, one book should cost about US 5 cents to print and ship, while the
device itself should cost less than US 2 dollar in material and labor (mass
produced), so providing a full year school book for 1000 children should
cost less than US 3000.
However, I must admit that TIME is a very scarce resource for me and the
very few active members that we have here, therefore if anyone is willing to
help build the prototype to see whether the design can really work, it will
be very greatly appreciated.
