Dear all,
In my very first mail on that topic I
noted and proposed specific action(s)
not replacement of the Relief organization job.
I compared also the Pacific Rim countries e.g Australia
that have alarm sensor and communication system
for discovering and warning about potential
danger with the area concerned. It was obvious, that the lack
of such system was one of the reason for
such big disaster and so many deaths.
I had in mind if ISOC Chapters come together
to answer to the catastrophe to act in that
direction - helping building the system
and helping in education and promotion.
Internet is certainly one of the medium that
is or could be part of the alarm system.
Besides that, the system is not enough, people should
know about that and should learn that
this exist (information, system ect.)
and that it can help them to realize
the coming danger. So, the Relief
organization will do there job, we can
contribute in more sophisticated way and
endorse one of the ISOC basic mission - PR, promotion
and education. Some of the Gene proposal are in
that context (I would prefer education in larger
area).
Regards,
Borka
